Book Descriptions:
The Chronicle of William Stone - Governor of Maryland, 1648-1654
William M. Stone, the author of The Chronicle of Thomas Stone of Hamilton Parish in Colonia Virginia, has done it again with his groundbreaking research in The Chronicle of William Stone - Governor of Maryland, 1648-1654. This well-documented early history of the Stones in England and their arrival in America features never before transcriptions of early wills written in Middle English and other key historical records that took months for Stone to transcribe. Stone's research on his legacy project corrects earlier histories with supporting documentation and fills in the gaps, while greatly expanding the knowledge of the Stone DNA Group 7 from Lancashire, Cheshire and London, England to Colonial Virginia and Maryland.

This heirloom-quality book is as important to the Stone history as The Chronicle of Thomas Stone of Hamilton Parish in Colonial Virginia was in understanding the family link between the North Carolina, South Carolina and Kentucky Stones. The research discoveries provided in this book lead Stone to a simple conclusion: the preponderance of historical facts both in official records of the Stone family, as well as closely associated families, strongly suggest that Stone DNA Group 7 is descended from Governor William Stone.

The Chronicle of Thomas Stone of Hamilton Parish in Colonial Virginia
Also offered for sale is an updated and expanded edition of Stone's earlier 2009 edition of The Chronicle of Thomas Stone of Hamilton Parish in Colonial Virginia. This updated edition presents new insights that bridge Thomas of Hamilton Parish to his great-grandfather, Governor William Stone, and to his uncle Thomas Stone, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.

The book covers Thomas Stone Jr. who married Mary Butler and remained in Fauquier County, Virginia; William who married Hannah Conway and lived in Surry County, North Carolina; and John Stone who married Mildruge Corder and lived in Fauquier County, Virginia and later in Laurens County, South Carolina. The book retains the earlier information with a wide assortment of records and drawings from deed abstracts, original grants, family wills and probate records, Revolutionary War records and historical letters. It also provides maps, images, and color photos of the actual Licking Run and Carters Run homesteads in Virginia. Research for this book was conducted over several years on site in the counties where the family members lived. Newman's archives in Maryland were also reviewed, as well as major state archives such as the Library of Virginia, the North Carolina Archives in Raleigh, and the South Carolina Archives in Columbia.

Each heirloom-quality hardcover book can be purchased separately or as a two-volume set. Each hardcover book will be printed on 8 1/2" by 11", 60 pound paper with top-quality library binding. Quantities are limited. A portion of each sale will help cover expenses for copies to be gifted to over 20 libraries.

Stone Family DNA Project in England

08Oct2017 Update
Letters have been mailed to potential Stone DNA candidates, phone calls placed, publicity put in a newspaper, but no one has stepped forward yet. We're not giving up on the project. If any of you know of some Stones in England or "recently" from England, let us know.

Bill Stone, author of The Chronicle of Thomas Stone of Hamilton Parish in Colonial Virginia, is researching the England Stones in an attempt to solidly connect his Thomas Stone, born circa 1699, to William Stone of Maryland and also to Thomas Stone, the Signer of the Declaration of Independence. Our William Stone (b.1772) is solidly connected to Thomas Stone (b.1699) via DNA.

As you may know, Bill has cancer and is in need of help to work on this project. Sue Stone Patrick has quite graciously stepped up to the plate to help. They are trying to raise $1000 to purchase DNA kits for Stone family members in England.

Looking for information about John Stone born 1750

The information about William's father, John, is sketchy at best. I'm aware that quite a few people have been searching high and low for more information, but to no avail. I'm aware of only two creditable sources (although arguably so) which are listed below.
1- At the bottom of page 32 in "Stone Connections" by Robert H Stone c.1987 he writes: "Another family that probably belongs in this area of our series of charts is John Stone b. 1750 in Guilford County, NC He married Polly Russell in 1771, and died in 1827 Chatham County, NC His children were William Stone b. 1772 who married Rachel....; John Stone; and Polly Stone b.1777 who married Patrick Sprint.
2- The DAR web site has members who have joined that document William and Polly Susannah being children of John.

If you have any information, please contact me

Patrick Sprint, Polly Susannah Stone, Thomas H Sprint (maybe Sprunt)

Are there any offspring of Patrick Sprint (1774-1815), possibly spelled Sprunt, Thomas H Sprint (1804-1862) or Polly Susannah Stone (1777-1809) out there? If so, I am very interested in filling in missing info. Please contact me.

Does your family tree look like this?

If so, peruse the site & let me know if we're related.

Acknowledgments

I am indebted to many for the information contained on this site, but two ladies deserve to be mentioned by name. The first is Sandy Stone whose ancestor is William Stone, Jr. b.1810. My wife discovered Sandy on the internet and began sharing information and pictures via email. Experience has taught me that emails are not the best place to keep information. So this prodded me to develope the web site so that data could be in one spot and in "my hands". Sandy shared her PDF file that initially was used to load the database and has tirlessly uploaded additional data and pictures to the site.

The second is Linda Gallimore whose ancestor is John Stone b.1800. Not only has Linda entered much genealogy information on the site but she has also led me to the Stone and Gallimore home sites and cemetery. See links under "Family" in the top menu bar.

Finally, my wife Sara, who has a gift of finding kinfolks in the myriad of internet details, faithfully rides shotgun with me through the mountains of southwest Virginia and encourages me at every step. I am unable to adequately express my thanks to her.
