"Dexter was once the Republican candidate for the State Legislature in the days before Carroll County became such a Republican stronghold. One day he walked up to the door of a farmhouse and when the lady answered his knock, he said, "I am Dexter Stone. I am the Republican Candidate for the House of Delegates." She said, "You go out in the backyard and tell it to that dog of ours. He's the only Republican on the place!" "We [Riley Emerson Gallimore family] used to have a picture of our great grandfather [Thomas J. Stone] that hung on the wall. Dexter was an exact replica of that picture."--Ellis Howard Dale Gallimore; in a letter to his cousins dated 19 Jul 1972.

According to Dexter's death certificate, he died at about 11 a.m. of acute coronary occlusion due to shock from burns. His occupation was listed as "brick mason". Miss Jennie Stone was the informant on his d/c.
