Ernest was the son of Henry Reuning and Katherine Tschauz.
Corning Evening Leader - August 19, 1926 The death of Ernest J. Reuning, 57, of 179 East Pulteney street, occurred this morning at 4:30 o'clock following an emergency operation. Mr. Reuning was stricken suddenly ill Friday at midnight and rushed to the hospital where the operation was performed in an effort to save his life. Ernest J. Reuning was born March 3, 1869 in Berne, Switzerland. He came to this country when 15 years of age. Most of his life was spent in Wellsvllle. He moved to Corning about eight years ago and had made his home here since. He was a baker by trade and had worked in the Meal Bakery and the Colgrove Bakery.
He was a member of the German Evangelical Church and of the local order of the Modern Woodman. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Katherlne Fisher O'Donald Reuning, one son, George, and one step-son, John O'Donald, all at home; two sisters, Miss Marie Reuning and Mrs. Lena When, of Berne, Switzerland; and one brother, H. Reuning, Sr., Wellsville.
* "Death: Aug. 19*, 1926 The 19th was a Friday. The obit says he became ill at midnight Friday & died a 4:30. Whether it was AM or PM means he died on a Saturday. Thus, the death must have occurred the Saturday before Friday the 19th which would be the 14th. [FR 21Aug2017]"
